Nirmala English Medium School
Nirmala English Medium School came into existence on 01.06.1993. It began with Lower Kindergarten and Higher Kindergarten. Urged by the people to open an English Medium School in the locality, with the aim of imparting sound moral values and good education, Rev. Fr John Baptist Braggs the founder of the school, provided the place at the church Veranda for the nursery classes. In that year, 27 children in the Upper K.G. and 32 in the Lower K.G. were admitted. Sr Dorothy Saldanha was appointed as the first Headmistress. In the year 1994, the First standard was started.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Government passed an order to impart education in mother tongue as mandatory at the primary level (standard I-IV). The language policy was a blow to the English Medium School. However, 28 students were admitted for the First std. On 13.03.1997, the new building was inaugurated. Rev. Fr Edwin Pinto, Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese blessed the new school building. Sri K. Jayaprakash Hegde, Honourable Minister for Port and Fisheries, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the building.
The school building is situated in the second floor of the Holy Family Complex having 13 classrooms, office and staff room and the adjacent Veranda. In addition to this we have spacious science lab, library and computer lab. On May 31, 1999 the school received recognition for V, VI, VII standards (Recognition no. 184: 1999-2000). In the year 2000, the school reached VII standard. 32 students appeared for the VII standard public exam and achieved 100% results.
